Celebrating the BNI Givers Gain® Award: Putting People First
Celebrating the BNI Givers Gain® Award: Putting People First
I was recently honored to receive the BNI Givers Gain® Award from my local chapter.
This recognition is incredibly meaningful to me, not because it’s about numbers or referrals, but because it reflects something much deeper: the belief that relationships, trust, and generosity are what truly move businesses — and people — forward.
What the Award Recognizes
The Givers Gain® Award isn’t about who brings in the most business or who closes the most deals. Instead, it recognizes something far more important: the impact you make when you consistently show up for others.
It highlights members who:
-
Go above and beyond — showing up early, staying late, and lending a hand whenever it’s needed.
-
Contribute selflessly — giving time, knowledge, and resources without expecting anything in return.
-
Build meaningful relationships — connecting people with opportunities, resources, or introductions that change the trajectory of their goals.
-
Strengthen the chapter — creating a culture where generosity and collaboration are the default, not the exception.
That’s the power of Givers Gain®. It’s a philosophy that says when you invest in others, you’ll see that generosity return to you in ways far greater than you could have planned. Sometimes it’s business. Sometimes it’s a new connection. Sometimes it’s simply knowing you’ve made someone else’s journey a little easier.
My Macy’s Theory (Inspired by Miracle on 34th Street)
This award also reminded me of something I call my Macy’s Theory.
If you’ve seen the classic holiday film Miracle on 34th Street, you may remember how Macy’s department store took an unusual approach: when a customer asked for something they didn’t have, employees would direct them to a competitor. At first, it seemed counterintuitive — why send business elsewhere? But it turned out to be brilliant. Customers trusted Macy’s more, knowing they would always be guided honestly, even if the sale went to another store.
That idea has stuck with me for years.
At Purciarele Group, we operate the same way. If we can’t solve a client’s challenge, we don’t push to “make it fit.” Instead, I’ll gladly connect them to someone in my network who can. Because in the long run, doing right by people always wins.
That’s the essence of my Macy’s Theory: if we don’t have it, we’ll make sure you find someone who does.
Why It Matters
Receiving the BNI Givers Gain® Award isn’t just recognition — it’s a reflection of what I believe business should be about: people first, profits second.
It’s about remembering that:
-
Networking isn’t transactional, it’s relational.
-
Success isn’t a zero-sum game — when one of us grows, we all grow.
-
True leadership is measured by how well we lift others.
For me, the award is a reminder of why I love what I do. Every introduction made, every resource shared, every time I say, “I know someone who can help you with that” — it all adds up. Not just for the person receiving help, but for the health and strength of the entire community.
And just like Macy’s in Miracle on 34th Street, if I don’t have the answer, I’ll make sure you find someone who does. Because that’s what Givers Gain® is all about.
💡 3 Ways to Practice Givers Gain® in Your Business
-
Lead With Introductions
If you meet someone who needs help, think first about who you can connect them with — even if it’s not you. A warm introduction is often more valuable than any sales pitch. -
Give Without Strings
Share your knowledge, resources, or time without attaching expectations. The best referrals come back naturally when people feel your support was genuine. -
Be Honest About Fit
If your product or service isn’t the right solution, say so — and point them in the right direction. Your honesty builds trust, and trust is the foundation of lasting business.
✨ Closing Thought: Awards are wonderful acknowledgments, but the real win is the daily practice of generosity. When we focus on giving first, everything else has a way of falling into place.
At Purciarele Group, we live the Givers Gain® philosophy every day. If your business is growing, preparing for transition, or simply needs stronger HR foundations, let’s talk. We’d love to show you how putting people first can strengthen both your workplace and your bottom line.
